ATV Drill Rig for Sale

Constructed two years ago we have used this geotechnical drilling and sampling rig successfully for over 20 projects. Mounted on a Kawasaki Bayou this ATV is only 39 inches wide and therefore is very suitable for access through most back yard gates. Powered by a 20 HP Kohler engine the drilling unit is entirely hydraulic. The augers are 4 inch diameter, and 4 feet long with a combination rock/mud bit. I have 28 feet of auger. To sample the drill head swings to the side and a mountable 70 pound sampling hammer slides along the drill frame. The sampler is driven with a rope using a hydraulic motor which powers the cathead.

The sampler and rods are extracted using the hydraulic ram which has a force of 1500 psi. Included are 5 drill quick thread drill rods, two aluminum and 3 steel, which are 5 feet in length. With a 2.54 inch or 2 inch standard California Sampler or SPT the total sampling depth is just short of 30 feet. As long as the driller keeps the augers clean it should drill and sample to this depth easily.

The tower folds down for transport and can easily be stored on the trailer in a standard garage. The drill frame is adjustable for upslope or downslope tilt adjustment. The entire drill frame can be removed for remote use and could be used remotely with hoses powered off the ATV for steep hillside or inside work. Separate remote hoses were never purchased but can easily be connected with the quick couple hydraulic hoses.

The ATV motor and hydraulic motor are separate, but on the same 3 gallong ATV gas tank. Two batteries are connected for plenty of crank power. A separate rapid charge/start battery charger is included. There is a tool box on the back and a wood platform mounted over the hydraulic tank on the front of the machine for carrying and working with samples.

The ATV is two wheel drive and is not intended for steep hillside access or work, although there is a 1500 pound capacity wench mounted at the front of the unit. The drilling frame is mounted directly on the axle so does not weight the suspension system. The ATV is about maxed out for weight so it should not be used for steep grades. The wench can be used for access to steeper locations, although caution should be used.

The entire unit comes with a two wheel trailer, complete with a new spare tire. It is suitable to be towed behind a pickup. The unit was designed to be used by one person, however, two person operation for drilling will substantially increase production. The unit is about 30 percent faster than a Minuteman drill rig because of the longer augers and samplers. In addition there is plenty of down force pressure for drilling.

Drillers are required to have a C-57 license in California to meet State of California requirements for drilling soil borings.
